Re: English Partridge
Other than hen skins and dry fly saddle hackles, I quit buying snipe, grouse, starling, etc. wings from Stateside suppliers. On several occasions in the past, when I purchased from Stateside suppliers, some of the under covert / underwing hackles (those with only a few hackles per wing) were missing...

Re: Partridge and Orange new school
Many years ago, somewhere in the 2007 time-frame (or before), a fiend in Europe sent me a pic of a Pheasant Tail & Partridge soft hackle that used a gold bead as the thorax. Since then, I've included the bead in many soft hackles including dressings with a thread, feather, dubbing ,etc. body. My...

Golden Plover
Just saw a posting today on Cookshill's web site regarding Golden Plover. A fellow asked to be put on the waiting list. Steve Cooper replied: "You are number 86 on the list!!! I tried to post a pic of the GP I have but for some reason can't post it here. But here's a link to the Classic Rod For...

Re: Golden Plover
Personally, I wouldn't pay $83.50 for a Golden Plover skin, especially if I didn't know the supplier and the quality of the supplier's materials. As I may have mentioned, although I do have a full Golden Plover skin (sent to me by mistake), I also have Golden Plover wings from where I usually get th...

Re: Golden Plover
dd Luckily for me, the Cheese Country waters where I fish, the trout there aren't so intelligent that they can recognize whether my flies have Common European or Jack Snipe hackles! Years ago when the Euro was very strong as compared to the dollar, there was a fellow in Europe that bought a whole lo...

Re: Golden Plover
dd Rob was the fellow who actually told me about - "Evidence of which can be seen in the famous north country pattern the Dark Snipe and Purple, which originally prescribed a dressing of Jack Snipe overcovert and not the common snipe that is used today." as stated in the link you mentioned...
