Re: Partridge and Orange

William Interesting that you mentioned using a gold ribbing on your P&Os. Although the "standard" P&O, P&Y, P&G, etc. all work fine, I'm starting to tie (and fish) more of the old dressings with wire ribbing and a peacock herl thorax or head. More towards the dressings that...

Re: Edmonds' & Lee's March Brown #8b

William I love the colors used and the blending of the colors in E & L's March Brown. The European Snipe Rump Feathers have a distinctly different coloring and texture when compared to a Snipe's wing feathers / hackles and in some ways, appear to be close to a Golden Plover's feathers. Speaking ...

Re: What's your favorite hook?

Re: Partridge hooks, many of the old (and I mean OLD), Capt. Hamilton hooks can be obtained from Richard Jefferies, who now lives in France. I've purchased quite a few different Partridge hooks from Richard for well over 10+ years and have never had a problem with the trout hooks that I get from him...

Edmonds' & Lee's March Brown #8b

Probably my favorite North Country spider is the #8b from "Brook & River Trouting" by Edmonds & Lee using Snipe rump feathers for both the tail and hackle. (I used more than "Two strands from a feather from a Snipe's rump...." ) No. 8b March Brown Ephemeridae Hook 2 or 3 ...

Barry

I mostly use Daiichi 1550 or 1530 wet fly hooks and sometimes Mustad 3906 or 3906b hooks. Also old Partridge Capt. Hamilton hooks that I get from Richard Jefferies in France.

Received my package today from Cookshill. 10 days from date of shipment to receiving the wings. I should be set now for the season.

In the past year or so, I've probably given away at least 8 - 10 partridge skins that had bare spots near the neck and the rest of the skin was intact.

Re: Good source for soft hackle materials

Bob I also like the English Red Grouse and have several sets of English Red Grouse and Woodcock wings that I obtained from either Ellis Slater and / or Steve Cooper (Cookshill). For the past several years, I've been getting my Partridge skins from an Orvis store (I know the manager). He orders sever...
