The dun color of the young starling is extremely appealing. What region of the bird are these feathers from? Are they body feathers, or wing feathers (coverts)? Ray You got me! I did these quite awhile back and just found the .jpg recently. If I recall correctly (???), I think the hackles were wing...

It's been awhile since I did a dressing with magpie herl but if I recall, the individual strands are quite delicate....if my memory isn't totally gone, I believe I used 3 ir 4 pieces tied in by the tips.

Bronze Peacock & Young Starling
Several years ago, I was able to get a "young starling" skin from Cookshill and a friend gave me some bronze-colored peacock herl. Ended up with a few of these.
