Re: most productive soft hackle trout fly
Nothing new to be said from me. I have been using a #14 partridge and orange all year long and have had good luck with it. I usually fish 2 flies. So I started out with a #14 partridge and orange and a #14 partridge and yellow. They worked very well in the spring, then I changed the yellow to a #18 ...

Re: "Emergers" in 1895?
Great post John. I really love the cover of the book, very classy! I am in the middle of a book you mentioned in another post, The Fly-Fisher's Craft by Darrel Martin. He refers to several books, one being River Angling for Salmon and Trout (1840) by John Younger. I don't have that book, but Martin ...

Re: Fly Tying Tools
Great post! Thanks for the historical download John. I just ordered another book, The Fly Fisher's Craft. I would have never heard of many of the books I have purchased in the past year and a half had it not been for members on this forum, particularly John. Edit - I just ordered Practical Fly-Tying...

Re: Scissor Recommedations
Thanks Trifly. My Anvil scissors cut the thread when I pull like you suggest, they just don't cut the hackle close enough to the thread for me. I have tightened them, cut from both sides and no real change in outcome. I have 2 pair, and since tying spiders I have noticed it more and more. It wasn't ...

Re: Scissor Recommedations
Thanks narcog, I didn't even think of an exacto knife, I have a set in my tool box. Mike - I'm gonna have to get a set of Fiskars and try them out since they really aren't that expensive. wsbailey - I don't have a scalpel, but that sounds like a good idea. I always make sure my razor blades from my ...

Re: Scissor Recommedations
After watching the Dr. Slick video I settled in on a pair. I went to Amazon and ordered a pair of the Arrow Point scissors. Then after seeing that they wouldn't be delivered until Wednesday, we are going back up to the cabin on Tuesday, I deleted that order and ordered a set of the Razor scissors wh...

Re: Scissor Recommedations
Thanks guys. Ray, I will definitely look into The Dr. Slick scissors, I really appreciate your help and insight. I hate wasting money and buying something only to find out what I bought wasn't really exactly what I wanted or needed. I have done that way more times than I want to count. Dave, thanks ...

Scissor Recommedations
I'm not really sure where this post should go, sorry if this is in the wrong place. I need to buy some scissors. I am using Anvil Ice Stainless. They are okay, but I need a pair, (actually 2, one for home and one for my cabin) that will let me cut the hackle really close to the thread. These don't a...

Not bad. Mine's a 1972 second printing too, in great shape for $6.84, with free shipping from Amazon.RickA wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2019 8:12 amI received my copy yesterday.
