Re: Horsehair Overcoat
Hey, Guys! I donate my time to teach out of Feather Craft as my "home shop". I was there yesterday and checked, confirming that horse hair is available! I saw some stock of white (nearly clear!), brown, chestnut, black and a blond, some of which appeared to be "natural colors"! T...

Re: Donald Nicolson----Tying Scotish Style!
St. Charles, Missouri is across the State from St. Joseph, and just west of St Louis, Missouri! I hope that you had time to travel south of St Joe, as you otherwise missed all of the trout fishing areas in the State! The Mississippi River is at best, home of a lot of what we call "rough fish&qu...

Re: Tip vs stem practise.
I consider the shape of the feather in assessing the tie in method! A Spade shape to the feather will cause a natural taper in the barbs if tied in stem first and rapped back to the hanging bobbin thread! In tying this way, the catching of the feather in the last rap sets behind most all other hackl...

Donald Nicolson----Tying Scotish Style!
Donald! Let me say, first, that I have enjoyed your web site on this topic, for some time, having studied the "art of tying" several years! I have an opportunity to tie flies as a demonstration at an upcoming, local event, the advertisement reads as follows: ( http://www.motartanday.com/ )...

Re: Working flies
Add to what Klass described! As you continue in search with the down stream approach, take advantage of the length of your rod! I fish a lot of "pocket water" in much the same approach, starting at the top of a "shoal" or "ripple", I will approach or work in from the sh...

Re: How to???
So.....Hank! When you gonna fish that bit of stream? We are all await! Its been a great "Arm-chair" adventure thus far! :geek: My self.... I'm a bit stuck with catching a read here on the I-net to tide me over until after work, family and the holidays! I see little time in my schedule unti...

Re: How to???
The greatest thing about this post and this site is that it offers a means by which we can share a simple image, then share the differences that the view provokes in each of us! I'd drive hundreds of miles to share waters for a day with most anyone on here (if I could afford to do so!!!!). Rocks and...

Re: How to???
Hank! Note that I'm not talking "casting" here, but simply using the length of the rod to place the flies into the water! At risk of being "assaulted" here, its no more then a "glorified cane polling" type method, if you will!!!!  So, really, a beginner can...

Re: How to???
Yes!!!! That Stream does say "No fly line on the water!" I would go with a two fly rig, staying with a tiny spider at the end with a "larger dapping" style, leggie looking, overly hackled wet fly on a dropper! The top fly should be tied on to the 8" long tag of a blood knot....
