Ray!
Are you implying that fly tying at 2:00 a.m. is not all, that common?

Re: Approaching Stoneflies with spider patterns
Yes! to think... We could have caught one of those critters on a river and sat down, stream side to do up a batch of flies! Match the hatch! Real Time! As I always care a bag of tying gear / materials with on a trip, I have had a few such evenings, sitting at the camp table by lantern light, working...

Re: Approaching Stoneflies with spider patterns
After looking at the other stone fly pics that TroutNut has on that site, I'm wondering, if a dubbing to match the belly of the stone fly could be built up and then accented with the darker color to bring up the two-tone look! Finish with the tubing as otherwise described! The dubbing could be brush...

Re: Approaching Stoneflies with spider patterns
Hey, guys! I was looking through the posts on the fly dressings, and got to thinking that maybe, Dubbn's pattern titled "Sunday Olive" could be tweaked into a great stonefly pattern! Here is my idea: Using a 2x or 3x lg nymph hook, tie in the tale, and clear tubing and a yellow Wapse wire,...

Re: Approaching Stoneflies with spider patterns
May I share a pattern here that works well for a troubling Stonefly! I tie these in sizes 8-12, using a heavy wire hook, typically a (2x or 3x lg, nymph hook, for a bit more wt.). Body ins "awesome possum", tied in good taper back to front, working towards what Donald described as "bi...

Re: Proposal
Easy to please fly tyers? Wow... Kidding! Guys and gals.... It good to find the time to get back on here! Way too busy lately. I'm even having "Fly Tyer Anxiety" lately! Or is is "disassociation syndrome"? But things are shifting so I'll try to stay connected a bit more! That is ...

Re: Proposal
A posting I made on another site to a thread about the "Tellico Nymph". A great story to go along with this great fly! I was fishing the famous White River in Central Arkansas, one fall day. This is a “tail water” type river, below an electric generating dam. As they release water, there a...
