Re: Better Shot of the PMD Flymph

Eric, Very nice. You are approaching Jim Slattery's legendary killer pattern here, the Madison Mauler. Has Jim shown that to you? Lance Yeah! That stinker tied one for me after dinner one evening, and then tells me I'm not "allowed" to fish it in the Madison between the lakes. :) B...

Here ya go; on #16 (I think) 3906B with the wire rib. I also tie this on dryfly hooks and skip the rib.

Better Shot of the PMD Flymph

I wasn't real happy with the quality of the picture I provided in the Henry's Fork Flymphs thread, so I decided to repost a better picture to show what the fly "really" looks like. :-) This shows the pattern tied on a #16 TMC 900BL hook with Benecchi 12/0 olive thread, Spirit River Fine &a...

Re: Flymphs for the Henry's Fork

You both would be most welcome. Suggest after July 15 so you can miss the most "social fishing" segment of the season. :-) And Jeff, should you choose to drive, we'll simply explain any mishaps with the explanation, "He's from Utah." OK, it's an inside joke, but anyone who fishes...

Re: Flymphs for the Henry's Fork

That's a Charlie Collins dun hen neck on the green drake, Jeff. Beautiful, and as you note, almost dry fly quality -- better in fact than most of those Chinese and Indian rooster necks of a few decades back. Our airborne predators on the Henry's Fork, in addition to gulls, include terns, eagles, osp...

Re: Fishing Wingless Wets, Without Felt ....

I truly love my Danner River Grippers. They are very comfortable, easy on-and-off (provided they're wet), and very secure footing. Regrettably, they are apparently the equivalent of a ghetto boombox underwater. The Henry's Fork is weedy, and so long as I am able to keep my feet on the weeds rather t...

Re: Flymphs for the Henry's Fork

Regrettably, I have to agree with your comment about wading rivers after dark -- even the relatively docile currents of the Henry's Fork. I know my reluctance and trepidation costs me an awful lot of good opportunities for very big fish during the brown drakes, but I figure a few more years of fishi...

Re: Flymphs for the Henry's Fork

Thanks Lance and William. You would not believe the gull problem that has evolved out there. I have no idea how they sense the start of the hatch, but you can watch them move up river anticipating the insects. It occurs primarily during the drakes, but I've also seen it happen on a heavy spinner fal...

Flymphs for the Henry's Fork

I haven't been here for a while, but Mataura Mayfly convinced me I should get reinvolved. I hope you don't mind my intruding with a couple of flies. 90% of my fishing is on the Henry's Fork because we have a cabin near there, and because it is my favorite river on the planet. The fish are wild and b...

Re: magnification

BTW... on the topic of magnification, has any one tried the bifocal Maui Jim sunglasses recently? A friend of mine picked up a pair recently, and I found the quality to be excellent. Aaron Haven't used the Maui Jims bifocals, but I do have Smith Action Optics glasses with 2.25 magnifiers in the bot...
