Re: A reasonable fish on a soft hackle...
It's a Brown RnF, all there are in this system, in fact there are only very a few rivers in the top of the South Island with 'bows. (Dare I say it; I sometimes get sick of browns and hanker for a few dumb rainbows now and again...) REE, The fly was a purple thread, touch dubbed with mole fur and a s...

A reasonable fish on a soft hackle...
A reasonable fish of around 2 3/4 lbs - just over 18 inches that fell to a Spur Winged Plover soft hackle today. http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd68/matuku/a0d4dc24.jpg http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd68/matuku/14af3b71.jpg There was a brief hatch of around 15 minutes and she gave a very go...

Re: Tups Mix...
Heh! I have crutched a fair few sheep in my time and I can assure you that a big strong and grumpy ram can be a handful.

Tups Mix...
Anyone know where I can source some (what now passes for the) original Tups mix? I have some old Sue Burgess Tups mix which although I can't testify as to how accurate the mix is, seems pretty good but have only enough now for about a couple of dozen flies. If I can't find any, I guess I'll have to ...

Re: Sylvester Nemes on Bead Heads...
No weight for me either other than the hook or rib on SHs, however I have been known to place a bead on the tippet so it slides down and sits on the eye - just for the time it was required.... Not trying to hijack, but interesting the comment he prefers to tie in the hackle by the tip. I reca...

Either would be fine by me. Both would work equally well.

Re: Which hackle collar slant do you aim for in your tying?
It is mostly a matter of personal preference, the look & feel the tier prefers
We are in agreement!! The Confidence factor....
I have been far too busy and have not been fishing for some 4 weeks. Maybe next week....
Cheers.

Re: Which hackle collar slant do you aim for in your tying?
Not trying to be offensive or anything, but to be brutally honest and maybe it's just a pragmatic Kiwi view but really to my mind, it does not matter one iota what angle the hackle is on. We are talking about fooling a creature with a brain the size of a pea. (OK maybe a brain the size of a crabappl...

I have not seen the Wapsi dubbings down here - don't even know if they are available, but I'll keep an eye out.

Re: Cuckoo and Green The green hackle this time.
And this is an example of the metallic olive green back feather. Again apologies as the pic does not do the hackle colour justice but again it really is a striking colour. Can't wait to give them a swim....
