Re: New Pearsall's Silk Substitute
Re: Silk sizes. A couple of rod makers tested Pearsall's Gossamer, YLI 100 & others. In a 1/2 inch wrapping, Pearsall's Gossamer did it in 108 turns, YLI 100 in 103 turns. The YLI is ever so slightly thicker than the Pearsall's Gossamer. Pearsall's Naples is 87 wraps for the half inch, so it's m...

Re: most productive soft hackle trout fly
Pheasant-tail soft hackles with a woodcock covert feather wing have worked almost everywhere here in cheese country. Sizes 16 & 18.
Now that it is terrestrial time, I'll toss a wet black ant, too.
Haven't had the opportunity to use Boarmountain's fly, but I will soon.

Re: Stripping barbules from a partridge feather
I've had the same irritating problem as raven4ns. Gave up attempting to strip off the barbs. Now I just carefully trim them off with scissors.

up eye wet fly hooks source
Hi folks,
I've been speeding up & down the web looking for Mustad 94842 or other up eye wet fly hooks.
Would someone point me in the right direction, please?
Please pm if necessary.
Thanks,
Paul

Re: Rena Caddis
Old Hat,
Love that hopper design. Been using a parachute hopper for a few years, but I'm planning to tie a bunch of these this year for the hopper hatch. Our hoppers aren't quite so robust as size #10, but #12 & #14 should work!!
Lovely fly!

Re: Custom Leaders - My next adventure
John,
What are you using for tippet?
I've used Rio & Orvis super strong, both of which I'm liking less & less. I've heard good things about every brand of tippet there is, though

Re: Custom Leaders - My next adventure
Thanks, Bob.
I used to tie a leader that used both Maxima Chameleon & regular tippet, but the ultra-green setup sounds like it would be fairly limp, which is good.
I'll give it a try.

Re: Custom Leaders - My next adventure
Bob, do you use this same setup when you are fishing here in cheese country?
Frankly, I'm thinking of returning to hand-tied leaders, since I'm not happy with the commercial tapered leaders.
