Re: Who Fishes Wood?
Bob - When did you you first start fly fishing? Did you start out on graphite, and transition to bamboo rods? I started out on glass rod, then built some graphite rods, then back to fiberglass and eventually to bamboo (thanks to friend Ruard who built my bamboo rod). I didn’t think I’d ever get cha...

Re: Who Fishes Wood?
Well, except for an 8 wgt Orvis rod that my wife bought for me many years ago (one of my first rods) and a 4 wgt Sage that belonged the brother of a friend, I have given away all my graphite rods and can now only fish cane rods. Having no graphite rods left really doesn't make much of a difference, ...

Red Fox Squirrel Nymph
Recently, I was able to look at packages of the Dave Whitlock dubbings for his Red Fox Squirrel Nymph and was able to mix up various materials with red fox squirrel furs to match the color and, hopefully), the texture and gloss in the REAL dubbings. Started tying a few and here's a (bad) pic of the ...

Re: Howarths Yellow Spider
Truth be told, virtually all the P & O, P& G aand P & Y flies that I tie include a peacock herl thorax. Also do that with other thread bodied dressings. I just like the look of the peacock thorax! Bob Bob, I have tried to incorporate more peacock into my soft hackles this year. I always...

Re: Bloody William
Awhile back, I posted this pic (and the dressing from the sourced book) and I still think that the name "Bloody William's Other Mate" is one of the weirdest named fly dressings. I'd love to learn why / how it got named!

Red Hot Spot black Magic Spider
I didn't get to do much trout fishing last season (to be honest, only twice), but on both occasions, I started the first day using the old and successful Black Magic Spiders. In going through some of my fly tying materials, I noticed a few strands of UV-dyed peacock herls a friend sent me several ye...
