Re: Buckskin

I still tie and fish a few buckskin patterns and believe the chamois gives the fish something to chew on. After a few fish, they get stanked and slimed like the real thing  ... synthetics don't do that. The downside is they do not dry well and there will be some rusty hooks but it's a smal...

Re: Buckskin

Wayne - Why do you dislike buckskin? What characteristic(s) causes you to seek other options? Curious to hear your thoughts. ;) I dislike chamois, which is used to tie the Buckskin nymphs. I broke my right hand 10 days ago, and am trying to find patterns I can tie. Chamois is too fragile with or wi...

Re: tying a thorax

On standard well documented/recipe flies, add a thorax if the creator of the pattern did so. Then omit the thorax if you are so inclined. There are no hard rules for creating soft hackles. You are bound by your own imagination, and what you decide the fish prefer. If you are tying to impress other tye...

Re: Buckskin

Nicely done, reminds me of some of my old rubber band nymphs. ;) Surgical tubing was close to this color and handy way back when I was making slingshots. I dont know what the difference is in the chemical makeup of this material and rubber bands, but this material does not degrade as fast. I too tr...

Buckskin

I hate tying with chamois. I am trying to duplicate the Buckskin nymph with synthetics. Had to throw a Dun hen hackle on one of them. Re: October Caddis

No, they work anytime Caddis are present. I should say when trout are keying on Caddis.

Re: Caddis

Wayne - Can you tell us how you formed and colored the body on this pattern? Nice attention to natural looking detail. Sorry about the poor fly quality. I am tying with a broken right (dominant)hand. 68495027_1097615513769405_4648218224268148736_n.jpg By coloring with a Sharpie then wiping it light...
