Heron Herl...
Alright, so now I'm confused. Robert Smith just posted a video of himself, tying a stone fly midge. In the video he calls for Heron herl as the body material. I thought it was illegal to possess heron as a tying material, Britain or North America. Am I wrong? I can't keep track of this stuff anymore...

Re: Mother's Day Caddis
I have a river up here, the Little Madawaska, that is a caddis machine . It's the one river where I see blizzard hatches. Not the Aroostook, not the Fish: the Little Mad. It doesn't matter if it's spring or fall, the predominant insect could be described as a cinnamon/orange caddis in #14. I'm not g...

Re: New book for me - Salmonia, Sir Humphrey Davy
I had a roadkill, paperback version of that very book for years; it literally fell apart. I read it, and read it again. Finally, I got a wonderful 1st edition hard copy from Ken Callahan. Not mint by any means, but a treasure by my standards.

Wayne, So glad to know you're having success with flies tied from the spool of purple Pearsall's Gossamer. This report from you may also convert some of the "purple haters" visiting this Forum. Your photo skills really help show off your flies. Color me green (not purple) with envy! Tight...

Re: Another Iron Blue
That is a wonderful picture of a beautiful fly! What did you use for the background? Thanks- Ken Ken, this is a piece of walnut a friend of mine gave me from trees taken down on his property before building his house. It made for a great Clark Block . Dave An Iron Blue, sitting on a piece of Walnut...

Dubbing well done is so much harder than you would think it should be; perfect dubbing is unattainable.

Yeah, about that not logged in thing... I wrote a response to REE in another thread, hit the button, and it all magically disappeared. Shoulders suck, they really do. Two shoulder operations later, and I wish I'd just tried to live with the original mess. Never again. I tried to respond to your com...

Re: “Summer on the Test”
Another good read, though not in the Pantheon like Hills book, is " Chalkstream chronicle " by Neil Patterson. When I was a teenager, way back in the mists of time (a child of state department wonks), I was able to get a moment on the Avon. It wasn't the Test, but I didn't care; it was the...
