Re: The delight of a balanced leader.....

Good on ya' Philip for spending 5 days a week with so many beginning flyfishers who can't adjust a leader or need help with their own equipment. :) We all had to start somewhere and it is great to have a knowledgable and patient teacher like you. Over fifty years ago I learned the value of making my...

Re: The delight of a balanced leader.....

flyfishwithme I agree with what you posted about having a sufficient leader butt. I can't say I have ever had a problem with my furled leaders for either long leaders (up to 22 feet) or casting into wind. I feel they perform as well or better than the tapered mono leaders I built for over 30 years. ...

Re: Red Clock

A very nice tie! Did you use continuous peacock herl or tie it in again after the hackle?

Re: The delight of a balanced leader.....

I tied my own for over 30 years and have switched to furling for all my dry fly leaders. Get the book Drag Free Drift for a great read on making and refining your leaders.

Re: Tan Mole & Hen

I prefer using a long tag end of the tying thread(as you mentioned) or another thread for the rib for durability. If the tying thread exposed as the tag and rib are cut then the body is free to unravel. I feel the thread buried in the dubbing is less likely to come apart. I have caught many fish on ...

Re: Dyeing dubbing

Mike. Nice discussion on dubbing but I differ on the only sensible method unless a divorce is the object. :D I did a lot of loose dubbing dying since that is the only way my wife's lop eared rabbit would shed it for my tying and I use Rit since it is easy to find down at a local store instead of bet...
