Re: Timeless fly tying advice
Phil Exactly why I dont subscribe to modern magazines! the reprint of "Silk, Fur and Feathers" is a good read. "You will find that many of these authorities have blandly copied from predecessors, and where you find them doing this you may infer that they are not necessarily very relia...

I don’t use Super Glue, only Fly-tite head cement and it gets absorbed pretty quickly on the body.

Head Cementing Bodies
I've seen videos when people apply head cement to the thread body before making a peacock herl wet fly body, so in the past few days, I decided that I would do the same thing BUT with touch dubbed bodies. It's always concerned me that lightly dubbed / touch dubbed bodies without a wire rib could loo...

Re: Proportions for Traditional North Country Spiders
John There's various opinions as to what the "correct" body length, hackle length / density, etc. should be and if you do some further research, you'll find that there are / were different preferences in the appearance of the soft hackles / spiders fished in the UK. Northern UK, Wales, Sco...

Re: Hares Ear and Partridge
I tie LOTS of flies using Hare's Ear dubbings and Partridge hackles! One of my favorites is a variation of Edmonds' & Lee's 8b March March, where I use dyed red Hare's Ear and gold wire rib (as in the E & L dressings), but I sub grey partridge hackles instead of Snipe Rump hackles. Awhile ba...

Re: To Cane A Trout
I have 4 or 5 grahite rods and I do fish them but I also have 12+ bamboo rods that I also fish. Years ago, I found that I seem to have a better "feel / touch" when a trout first takes my fly on a bamboo rod and when landing the fish, I seem to feel more of the fish's "movements" ...

Re: Bloody William's Other Mate
The dressing for "Bloody William's Other Mate" was taken from pages 16 and 17 from T. Donald Overfield's book: "50 Favourite Wet Flies." Will have to dig out the book and take a couple pics.

Bloody William's Other Mate
Quite awhile back, I saw a pic of this dressing and the name got my attention - "Bloody William's Other Mate", so I had to tie a few. Don't remember if I still have them or fished them, but I got a chuckle when I saw the pic in my computer files.

Re: T E Pritt's Grannon or Greentail
Phil I have Ronald's book and will have to go through it and tie a few of his dressings. Are you tying the old dressings again at the January "Icebreaker" ? For years, I tied them at the Grand Rapids, MI "Celebration of Fly Tying" show in late February but the show was cancelled ...

Re: T E Pritt's Grannon or Greentail
Thanks guys for the compliments. The old dressings and books about the old dressings / flies / methods really get me going, especially the search for as many of the original materials as possible to attempt to duplicate the old dressings.
