Howdy All;

Happy Day!!!, Mr. Bill's packet of some very nice feathers arrived last Thurs.
and my hooks from afar arrived today. These hooks have huge eyes on them
even the Ahab style barbs drop through them without even touching the sides.
There was even a package of #13 1557 Limericks enclosed as well ? Didn't
order them but the email notifying me that they were on their way implied
that they (Kenhook), were upset with themselves that the hooks weren't
mailed sooner ...
Spent the better part of an hour or a bit more cleaning them up, old stock,
had some light surface rust on them and needed to close up some of the eyes.
Now to mix some dubbing and see how best, for me, to get it where and how
I feel I want it.

As you know I came by that vintage style honestly but I guess that I could have improved it by using this vise.

Man, oh man! For such a simple-looking fly, it is surprisingly tough to get the proportions right.
First, the tail was too long. I fixed that. Then the Thorax was too full. Almost got that. Now I have to get the hackle length shorter. And darker.
I dug around and didn't have enough 94840's in size 14. I do have Diichi 1280's in a 14, but they're 1x fine. I don't have 3906B' in 14.
ARRRRGGGHHHH!
I think I'm gonna order both 3906B's and 94840's in 14 and see which one's I like better.

On the positive side I really like the color of the 06a Gold after it is waxed. It turns a flat gold color that looks delightfully orangish.

(Continuing from the other I started about dark olives...) This one's getting to be a bit closer to what I'm looking for:



I added a bit of dark olive beaver to the seal/bear mix and used a noodle rather than using the dubbing block. It seems to go on easily enough that way.

It still needs to be cleaned up a bit, but that I can manage.
