In Honor of Skues and Leisenring and in to continue the theme of Pete Hidy's International Society of Fly Fishermen we now have a forum to discuss Nymphs.
What's your favorite nymph pattern ?

Jim..... excellent fun! :D
Do we have bounds and guidelines? Or is it a any old nymph section?

For myself- all time favourite, go to, if all else fails..... Pheasant Tail nymph. Anywhere trout live anywhere in the World, you will catch with a Pheasant Tail. ;)

Only rule is to be nice to each other! Since our fore bearers were conservative iconoclasts in the realm of nymph fishing I do not see why we can't continue the tradition. Anything goes. Let's just keep it civil and clean.

Gentlemen,
Good Morning!! This new "nymphs" catagory is great! My favorite? #1 is Dave Whitlocks Red Fox Squirrel Hair Nymph! I was getting out the box in the closet dedicated to this very pattern early this morning before I realized this discussion had opened up! I also tie a wet version of this famous pattern which is an absolute killer on my local beauties. Dave W. did a great thing when he conceived and created this pattern!
My second choice and beyond.....?? There are hundreds! Where should I begin?
This is great!

Funny isn't it: Dave Whitlocks Red Fox Squirrel Hair Nymph. By far the best producing nymph I've fished in my pocket water rivers. My fly box is filled with them in different sizes from 18 to 12. Also on my list is PHT, RGH, Cal Birds Birdsnest and Frenchies in all colors.

Ariel,
Most of those I am familiar with, but the RGH doesn't ring any bells.

I just recently was introduced to the "Frenchie" nymphs. These look like they will do a real number on the local bream population.
I think I'm going to tie up a couple of batches of these for the Texas chapter of CFR.

This should work for trout in North Texas.
