Obvious why it would be a favorite. Very well done.

Nice and buggy, as a trout fly should be! Love it.

I've always used partridge or grouse. I like the woodcock and will have to give it a go. Thanks for sharing.

Dave, a box of these could make anyone's season. Great looking composition.

This is another staple in my fly box. Kind of a caddis
Hook......kamasan b170
Thread...pearsall's orange waxed
Body......life cycle light olive with a silver or gold rib
Tail.......light partridge hackle 4 or5 fibers
Thorax....red seal fur
Hackle....coot under wing covert.

Fish this one up stream, dead drift, just under the surface. Great just before a sedge hatch!

Cheers
Dave.

Dave - What size hook do you recommend for this pattern?

Hi Ray, this one is on a 16, but 18's seem effective as well. Notice I've trimmed the hackle, which I do with most of my ties. I don't think it's a biggie, the trout don't seem to mind!

Another pattern that I've been playing with again on a size 12 short shank sneck bend hook. Light hares ear, gold rib and a woodcock hackle. A real vintage look to this one, oh and a partridge tail.
Cheers
