Ray, that is really nice. The weather is starting to turn...I have to get to the water.

The Killer Bug is a favorite of mine. I have used summer, winter east and west. Veniard's makes a sub of the real stuff, although it's not real close. It's the red fibers that throws everyone off, I think.

Been a few days ... when ya going to post a photo or 2 of one of those flys WET.

Hopefully, you show a dry one next to it so we may see the color change.

*chuckle* I got home late from work the past couple nights, so lighting has been poor for outdoor photography (I take crappy indoor photos). I will give it a shot tomorrow (watch, it will rain tomorrow...).

The side-by-side (wet/dry) is a good idea. Thanks for the suggestion.

Ruard - You were absolutely right. The fly gets significantly darker when it gets wet. Interestingly, the shade of the fly looks different on different background and different amounts of light (see photos above). The wet body is a warm mottled neutral brown (hows that for a meaningless description). It seem like it would imitate a range of different insects.

Very cool--to my eye, the copper core doesn't darken the thorax much; did you happen to notice anything in natural light? (Though no doubt the weight will be beneficial for getting the fly where it needs to be.) At any rate, it seems like one of those flies that you really need an excuse not to fish...

How did it dance in the water. You DID bounce it around in the glass to see how it moved didn't ya?
Shucky-darns ... in a previous existance (or even 20 some years ago), I might even want to snack on it!!!
