I think you attached the same picture multiple times. It is a nice picture, though.

Ok, here we go. Last week I had the pleasure of fishing the Fire Hole River with John Shaner (Greenwell). PMD's were out in full force and we got into the fish pretty bad.
This is a fly that produced. Originally tied by Craig Mathews of Blue Ribbon Flies in W.Yellowstone, he came up with this for emerging White Miller caddis in the park. It also works for PMD's.

Lets go over the set list:
Image
We have Langley Silk in pale Goblin Green
722 wax
Hareline cream dubbing
Daiichi 1560 wet fly hooks, size 16
And a Partridge shoulder feather.

Begin by starting your sillk on the hook and taking it back to he point. Here tie in your spun body and take your thread up to about 1 hook eye length before the eye.
Image

Next take your spun body and wrap it forward to where you stopped your thread and tie it off, one good wrap should do it. At this point it should look like a mess, refrain from trimming and long hairs or fibers.
Image

Prepare your Partridge and tie it in. I always tie in game feathers by the tip, they seem to wind better for me. Plus that's just the way I was taught.
Image

Two full wraps should be plenty. Tie off with two/three good wraps and whip finish.

Ta-Da! White Miller flymph. Unbelievable production with this pattern. I'm sure Shaner's tips helped me out a bit too with presentation ;) Which he knows I'm grateful for. You can really play around with the materials listed here to match your local caddis flies. Give it a try.

This fly was a wonderment on the Firehole. A warm water caddis I believe.

Eric,

Nice job on the tie and on the river-an essential fly in any Yellowstone fly box and equally productive in the fall. It was a great time getting to know you and others a little last week. :D

Nice job all around, Eric -- both with this post and on the water in Montana. It was a pleasure travelling with you.
