An Elk Hair modified to imitate a diving caddis; change colors/size to suit your needs.

hook - Dai Riki 320 #14
thread - MFC 8/0 sand
body - Zelon dubbing hydropsyche (hare's ear would work fine, too)
bead - 2.5mm gold
wing - mule deer
flash - Midge Krystal Flash rootbeer
hackle - partridge

mash barb, slide on bead; start thread, wrap to bend

Image

dub thread/dub body (bead should be 1 hook eye width back from eye); half hitch x 2, SHHAN

Image

Image

re-start thread in front of bead; jam it tight against dubbed body

Image

clean, stack, measure (tips to bend) a clump of deer hair; tie in

Image

Image

tie in KF; fold back/tie down

Image

Image

prep partridge, tie in by tip; sweep fibers back while winding, tie off/trim

half hitch x 2, SHHAN, trim head, trim KF

How did I miss this earlier?! It must have been posted when I was away.

Brilliant combination of materials, and beautifully executed fly. Inspiring, as always.

I want to steal flies from your box some day. Heck, I'd probably steal the whole dang box. You've been warned...
