A pattern from the Outer Hebrides island of South Uist, developed by Iain Christie in honor of local gillie Charlie Maclean. I've seen versions with the hackle palmered along the entire length of the body, but thought this one looked pretty cool.

hook - Mustad 3906 #10
thread - Danville 6/0 black
rib - oval tinsel silver
tail - yarn hot orange
body - tinsel silver
hackle (back to front) - hen white, furnace, white

mash barb, start thread, tie in tinsel and wrap to bend

Image

tie in yarn, trim to length (gap width past bend)

Image

tie in tinsel at 2/3 mark, wrap to bend and back again; tie off/trim

counterwrap rib; tie off/trim

Image

tie in (folded) hackle; wrap, tie off/trim

repeat with furnace

finish with white

tie off/trim, half hitch x 2, SHHAN
