What a great thread! The streams I fish are mostly too narrow & brushy to cast across stream. Its up & slightly across or just hitting the pockets with short slack line drift down stream.

Regarding this forum, I mainly posted because I associated "the swing" with a wet fly/soft hackle fly thrown accross and allowed to drag laterally until it was downstream. I was looking for expert opinion on this kind of swing, and figured forum readers would have some expertise with what I thought I was seeing.

But I don't use actual soft hackle flies, and now that I've confirmed about as well as I can my findings, and got enough replies to tie in with what I think I found, I might not have anything more to post. Not that it hasn't been fun! Anyway, I don't know about next year.
