Hi Wayne.........i have bout a half dozen Boo rods.....or i have 4 or 5 and Misako has one or two.........whatever. i love to use them (specially my two little ones.....5' & 6'), on small tribs.......Catskills......have yet to use them here. Planning on using my 7 footer.....(might be a 7 and a half, i forget), soon. i use to use that one in N.Y. a lot.....especially on the Connetquot on Long Island. It's actualy pretty fast for a Boo rod. This cat in Japan built them for us.....Misa's is a 5 wt. and mine's a 4 wt. He gave 'em to us......all we hadda do was let others cast and fish with them, and send him feedback.....sweat deal. i have another old 8 fter. that's a 6 wt. but i've never used it other than on ponds for bass. i bought it for Salmon fishin'.......but never did use it for that. My other one is goin' to hank..........whenever i remember to get it to the post office. It doesn't quite fit the tube i got for it for mailing........so i gotta devise a way to get around that before i can mail it. i had an Uslan 5 sided.....but i gave it to a friend who lives in Washington state.....he fell in love with it, so what could i do............that was a way cool rod actually.......... :lol: .............i love the whole Boo thing.......and would gladly swap out a few (or more), of my carbon rods for another Boo or two........we've been through over 80 fly rods in the 20 plus yrs. we been fly fishin'........and still have over 60......80% of which never get used. We've givin' away close to 30 along the way as well. Never did have eyes to wanna build or learn to build one......to much more time away from the vise.....but i love those who do for their dedication and craftsmanship, etc., etc. The Boo gang is a gas..........bunch a frickin' nut cases.............takes one to know one. :D Nothing is more beautiful (in a rod) than Boo............and the feel and that connection (grass) to nature. i spose if i didn't have a fortune invested in books, artwork and fly tyin' junk..........i might own a few more really fine Boo rods..........but "if" don't matter......"choices" do.
All the best with your project.....enjoy. Easy ;)

Hi Mark;

I just spent a few days with the "Boo nuts" at the Southern Rodbuilders Gathering(SRG) in Moutain Home, got a lot of good ideas cast somewhere over twenty different rods and was just curious if any one here fishes a rather long bamboo rod for flymphs.

DANG...........i would of droped by..........didn't know it was goin' on............been meanin' to stop over at Nunley's for months...........but you know how it goes. Maybe next year. Misako and i have attended the Boo gathering (twice a year, only different each time), at the CFFC&M up in N.Y. most years they've had it. Couldn't "always" make it cause of travellin'.................but anyway. i know you had a real good time. Maybe you can make Sowbug in March.....Bob & Harry usually have a booth. i won Bob's book at a NAFF meeting monthly raffle bout a year ago. It's pretty cool.....
You might pose your question over at http://www.sparesgreymatter.com But as far as i've been able to gather.............flymphs aren't so big over there. Maybe narcodog can clairify..........bunch of Boo guys though.........have fun. ;)

Hi Mark;

The Leonard 50DF that I liked so much and thought would be good for swinging wets belonged to Bob Nunley, great guy! It is an original Leonard rod that Bob restored and let me try, I felt priviledged to do so!

I'm planning on attending SowBug, hopefully I'll be invited to tie again next year.

Dang, i forgot you tyed before........Way Cool.........an since you did, you should automatically be getting your invite again. We always send out more invites than we have room for tyers.........based on an estimate of how many we can handle over the three days, considering how many have asked for more than two shits the previous year. There's always a bit of guess work involved because we have no way of knowing how many will want mutiple shifts, how many no-shows we'll have, and or last minute cancellations. So we over book it on purpose and hope for the best. You have to do that to insure as many full seats as possible at all times. If we're to conservative about it.....you risk empty seats. Bottom line for tyers is if you snooze, you looze. When your invites comes, fill it out immediately and that gives you the best shot at getting as many shifts as you want. Fortunately most guys only wanna tye 2 or three shifts outta the 6. This'll be my 9th Sowbug and i've tyed every single shift, every single year. i just like to tye.....thass what i'm there for. But most guys aint that nutz. :lol: It's also fortunate that we'll have more seats thatn ever before in the new venue.....the fairgrounds. We'll be able to seat 56 tyers at all times from now on. We're gonna have 7 circles of tables.....two facing two w/two facing two, in square circles.......8 tyers to a circle, times 7 table circles.....w/the tyers on the inside of the tables naturally. Should be cool. We were only able to have 49 tyers at a time before, in that last venue.
If you can, show up by 4 p.m. on Wed. the 21, and help us set up.....stick w/me, and your "should" be able yo pick your seat after we're finished setting up. :D i'll help you hook that up. That is, if you going to be tying first shift, first day. If not, your on your own. :P
And yes, Bob Nunley is really good people. i been knowin' him since '99 originally from the Fly Anglers On Line website, and Fish-In's we attended together in N.Y. The guy really cares about helping kids.....highly commendable. ;)

Wayne, are you seriously talking about lopping around with a stick in your hand when you could be beckoning angels with the exquisite translucence of glass arched against the sky? pitiful. :D

Hi William;

Don't try any bamboo fly rods, the addiction is worse than glass! I've already got a 7wt bamboo taper picked out for bass fishing, Payne's 8 1/2ft, 3pc, Canadian Canoe rod, it's a real cannon. I'm just trying to refine my ideas on the ideal bamboo rod for swinging wets, I've tried a couple I really like 8ft & 7 1/2ft Leonard tapers but looking for one a little longer.

There's something magical about casting something made of bamboo, there's nothing quite like it! It doesn't hurt that I will have made it myself either!

William, of all the rods i've given away......there's only a couple i kinna wish i still had.......... :( ...........both were glass............. :roll:.......... :lol:

We're in extra innings, and Texas has gone up by two runs..........again..........but, the Cardinals have two runners on (first & second), in the bottom of the 10th, w/ NO outs. :D This game has been "Something Else." ...........runners on second and third now..........with one out............jeeze, that was almost a triple play............... :o
