Nice Vicki. I recently bought a Princess from '66 with an extra spool that looks damn good for it's age and I love it. Enjoy the new toy!

I have a couple of Hardy's that I bought new from the same period and the finish on the spools looks very similar to the picture that you posted. These reels are very low maintenance and just require an occasional cleaning and a touch or wipe of lubricant where the metals could wear or provide smooth operation. I give the outside of the reels a good wiping with a silicone cloth and they have remained in great condition. I use my Hardy LRH Lightweight for 90% of my trout fishing, and unless I damage or lose it I expect to be using it for the rest of my fishing days.
