Murky Waters

Wow, what a day! My buddy Bob, his wife and I floated the Roaring Fork again. It was murky as expected. What I didnt expect was the lack of other boat traffic. I found out later at the fly shop that most people are put off by murky water. We had an exceptional day.

Heres my buddy Bob playing a fish. You can see how murky the water is.

I did lose the first 6 fish I hooked. My 3X nylon tippet material developed a nasty habit of breaking with the slightest pressure. No biggy. As murky as the water was, 2x worked just fine on my bigger flies. 4X was the smallest I had to go today, and that was for a size 18 caddis emerger. Murky water and the trout were pounding a size 18.

All three of us caught plenty of trout. I even had a Whitefish or two come play.

I believe every trout hooked went aerial today. Even the Browns. It was fun and exciting watching and feeling them rocket out of the water.

Most of the trout were in the 14 inch range like this one.

I managed 3 Browns that went 18 inches, and a couple Bows that were pushing 22 inches. The fish are very fat and strong right now.

Hot patterns were a size 14 Muskrat, a size 18 Black and White Caddis Pupa tyed with midge tubing and white wire, and a size 6 Stone Nymph.

I am very tired, but verry happy!

DUBBIN, Howdy;

Great trip report as usual. Almost gettin' to be habit forming.
A good habit it is...

PS. Your follow-up with the fly is impressive.

Thanks Hank. I truelly appreciate the kind words.

I have been looking back on my reports. Talk about repetitive. You can take the beginning of the first report and plug it into the beginning of the last report and never see a difference. My reports have become boring/stale. I can see it and I am sure others can aswell.

I will report again when something exciting and new happens. ;)

Wayne, your reports are never boring and stale. They are fun to read and it is great to see somebody getting out and doing some fishing. I enjoy the photos, your words and the fly patterns you always thoughtfully include. Keep up the great work! :)

DUBBIN, Howdy;

I didn't mean to say that you had formulized your fishing reports.
Was only making a reference to the regularity of the postings.....
Seems like you are out on the water at least weekly. If you miss a
weekend I almost feel like I've missed-out as well.

fishing vicariuosly thru your exploits...

hank

PS. Hopefully, on the 25th I'll be having ulner nerve and carpal tunnel done
on my right arm. Then later this Summer I'll have the same thing done to the Left.
Your's and other fishing reports may be the only fishin' I do for awhile.....

Wayne...I'm thrilled you're doing so well. You're out there fishing for all of us at soccer games, swim team meetings, birthday parties and family chores. Thanks for doing such a great job with the reports.
