If I had to choose one cape for soft hackles it would be an English partridge skin. So many color variations on one skin.

I second the English Partridge ! A lot of variation there.

Hard question. Mine would be a whiting rusty dun hen cape. Second would be a partridge. Third would be a grizzly hen cape.
I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

Perdix perdix, aka English Partridge, aka Hungarian Partridge, aka Grey Partridge. (They're all names for the same bird. Not to be confused with Alectoris rufa, aka French Partridge, which is the bird I would have called a Grey Partridge if I were the one making up names.)

As far as I'm concerned, Hun is indispensable.
