Yes, those cane rods are sweet. I paired mine with an old Pflueger Medalist 1495 that I inherited from my Dad. I also got another Montague fly rod that he owned, but it is in too rough a shape to fish with. I may get it refinished some day.

This was a great post. It really cheered me up. 1st Nov was not exactly a good day for me, but it did improve with a big family meal in one of the finest restaurants in the Edinburgh area. A fantastic meal now crowned with an excellent fishing report, it is amazing how a completely unashamed fly fisherman, can justify avoiding a job to test some flies, a rod and a reel etc.
I am glad the flies worked ok, the Goat's Toe is renowned for catching large browns and sea-trout. It does not look like anything alive in nature, but obviously it is very fanciable to trout and salmon. You have cheered me up a lot.
