Uni-Yarn Bodies

Post by chase creek » Sun Jul 08, 2012 5:42 pm

Hooks - WR-011, Size 14
Thread - Griffith 14/0 Primrose
Body - Uni-Yarn, Insect Green or Lt. Yellow
Hackle - Furnace Hen
Ordered some more spools of different colors, I like the mini-fuzz bodies these make.

Agreed! I like working with this stuff. I like being able to mount the spool in a bobbin holder and tye with it like regular thread. It makes nice streamer bodies too.

Yeah, I like this as well. I mostly use a mohair yarn from a distributor out of Boise, ID. It is multiple strand so I can separate it for smaller flies. Great colors as well.
I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

Rodger, these are really nice. I haven't tied with Uni Yarn before, but it looks promising. Thanks so much for this post.

Those are some cool flies. I never thought of using Uni-Yarn on this kind of fly. I used that material for spey, and salmon flies....well I am gonna have to try it!

Hi Ruard - Yes, this comes in several colors. I just ordered a few the other day, and they should be here soon. I have the light yellow, insect green, and a darker olive.
It's a pretty versatile material. It can even be very lightly touch-dubbed without wax as the stray fibers seem to hold on to the dubbing pretty well. It is a 2 strand makeup, and by just using one strand, one should be able to get a nice thin body. The flies shown use both strands. I'll try to post some more of these when I get the other colors.

I keep looking at this thread and I try to tell myself not to buy the Uni-Yarn. It just looks way too simple. Once I get to looking, I get to wondering, then it's just a matter of time before I have to buy some.

I have a meeting for a few hours this morning. I dont know how I got so lucky, but the meeting is within walking distance of the flyshop. If there is Uni-Yarn available, I'm gonna be buying it!

Chase Creek, thoes patterns look great!
