Tying Tenkara Flies DVD

Post by CM_Stewart » Sat Aug 04, 2012 8:56 pm

Warning - Shameless Plug follows

The Tying Tenkara Flies DVD I worked on with LearnTenkara.com has just been released. It is 2.5 hours, 19 flies (17 patterns), with an introduction by Japanese tenkara master Dr. Hisao Ishigaki, an explanation of why the reverse hackle is reversed, advice for beginning tyers, underwater video of the flies and even a few fish being caught on the flies.

Only 18 of the 19 flies are wingless wets. Hans' CDC&Elk is tied (although not as well as he ties it himself). On stream footage clearly shows how effective it is, though, even when I tie it.

It was a fun DVD to make, and I hope it might be of interest to some of the people on the forum who are playing around with the tenkara style.

Chris - I will be putting in an order for your new CD, along with some more yarn. I'm excited to see more of your Tenkara techniques. Congratulations, by the way!

Chris, congrats on the DVD. My order has been placed. I'm excited to see what you've put together. Check the fly dressing page later tonight. I'm in.

Chris, I got a chance to watch the DVD this morning and it's very helpful. The simplicity and effectiveness of these flies really comes through. It helped to dispel a lot of the unknowns and highlights the real spirit of the method. Nicely done, and a big thank you. Apparently my tenkara fly attempts are both way off the mark and perfectly acceptable. Now to try them out.

William,

Your flies are not at all "off the mark." They will all fish very well. I have been so far behind after being away for a week a little while ago that I have not spent much time here on the forum. I'll go over to your fly thread and leave a quick comment before getting back to trying to catch up.

Chris, is the production DVD format multi region or set for the US region only?

I believe they are multi-region, but just to be sure I have sent an email to the producer. I will answer here when I receive the answer.
