Favorite Hooks

Lance just for your info. Orvis markets Diichi hooks. I discovered this a few years ago when I was looking at the Big Eye that both sell.

The mini-barbs are fine with me, as they take less effort to mash down; the smaller "bump" that a mashed down mini-barb leaves behind is enough to solve the problem of numerous LDRs that I experienced with truly barbless hooks.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with that problem.
I like the Dai-Riki 125 emerger hook. I buy them for 9 cents each off ebay.

proportions of dubbing, thread wraps and any other materials when you
go back and forth from the 6's to your beloved 24's ...

LDR means "long distance release." Could also mean "lost during retrieve." I am expert at it.
I have become so advanced that I have now learned how to release them before they are hooked—or RBH.

Daiichi makes the Orvis hooks... or I should say I guess, the Orvis hooks are Daiichi.

I've been giving this some thought ...
My favorite hook is ...
the last one I successfully tyed a fly on
I'd better elaborate...
Mostly I tye for the swaps. I fool around with some
but never anything specific. I find each type of hook
to have it's own little nuances. Long ones eat up the
thread and materials at a greater pace. The short ones
almost have me tripping over myself. The TUE's are a
fit to tye off due to the eye not catching the thread ...
So, basically, they each have their own "Specialness" and I
like that a lot.

Thank you Bob, for that info. I do have a few packs of Orvis laying around. I haven't bought any in ages. Now I have a renewed interest in them, after learning this.

The two hooks that Gingerdun posted look like the Daiichi 1180 mini barb dry fly hook on top and the 1130 wide gap scud hook on the bottom. I'm pretty sure you can get the same hook for less from Jim's Fly Co.
