Cuticle Trimmer/Thread Trimmer/Burnishing Tool

My wife's cuticle trimmer mysteriously disappeared recently...right about the time I discovered it made a terrific thread trimmer and burnishing tool.

Image

The top end has a metal cutter, which is ideal for trimming thread. The cutting edge is razor sharp, yet protected by the little "Vee" shape.

The opposite end is supposed to be used for pushing cuticles back, but it makes a great little burnishing tool to smooth silk bodies.

(shhhh...don't tell my wife...she will want it back...)

Very clever Ray. I'll give it a try.

Cool! Might be easier (and less painful) to use than the razor blade. I'll have to make a trip to the drugstore and see if I can find one.

By the way, I am sending a note to your wife.

yes this is a great tying tool and I have mine locked in a steel box wrapped in plastic so don't even think of 'The Borrow.' As I speak there it is perched right next to my spinning tool. Cheep, works well, easy to use. Smart find.
Not only great for threads but for getting in close to stems when tying those hackles in.
We gals knew you'd find it soon enough.

Good "discovery", ha. I have a Materelli whip finish tool that has a "V" cut into the end that works the same. I was in West Yellowstone a few years ago and was watching Mathews tye. His Whip finisher had the "V", when I got home I took a jewelers file and did the same. I now have a limited edition Materelli that I use.

Thanks a lot, Rodger. With friends like you...

I'm in big trouble... ;) :D

Bob - I bought a stainless steel whip finisher from Craig Mathews (Blue Ribbon), which had a V-notch cutter at the end. It works like a charm, and reduces the number of tools to pick up/find while tying.

Very clever. ;)
Take some time (and don't get caught!@!) to have a good look through the rest of the make-up supply, lots of good stuff in there.
Heck, some make-up removers even make good floatant! ;)

Like Bob I use a sharpened Materelli, no "V" notch though- might have to try that.
I guess if you hand whip finish- you could file a V in one of your fingernails?

I think Ray was just looking for an excuse to get booted out of the house so he can go to Roscoe this weekend! Ingenious, (both the tool and the logic) Ray!
