Paul - I have not used raccoon tail underfur, but it looks like nice stuff. It looks like the texture is very fine, so should work well for smaller flies.

Wayne mentioned a fly that I tye, based on raccoon. He is talking about a fly I've fished with now for many years. The fly it called "The Raccoon" (odd since it uses rabbit dubbing instead of raccoon). The fly is a Skip Morris fly pattern for sea trout, but I have caught many many different species of fish on this fly. My favorite being steelhead.

Tying Instructions: The detailed tying instructions can be found in Skip Morris's book ("Morris on Tying Flies"/ISBN 1-57188-378-9/Pages 98 thru 101) or in his article in "Fly Tyer" magazine (Spring 2002).

I've heard of this pattern mentioned before Ray, but you sure have the details down. I read through the links and there is a lot good information and pics on this pattern. I like the variant you tied, that is a great looking fly. Good stuff!
