Thanks, Carl, those are great, you can bet a few of those will be in my fly box this season. What size hooks were you using? I may have to hit you up on the material if I can't figure it out although on some I will substitute what I have on hand. You guys have a more complete selection of material than I do but I can sub what I do have. Thanks again, Carl.
All the best,

I fish most of those in the #6-#10 range. Substitute away Tim, I do. Color and profile are most important and of coarse presentation.

Tim there are a lot of older proven patterns that are appropriate. Not necessarily "Flymphs" but definitely soft hackles and more simple than the fanciful salmon patterns.

Look up some of these:

Zulu
Blue Zulu
Trinity Brown
Trinity Grey
Sweet Loretta
Sundowner (various colors)
Steelhead Stick
Spitfire
Spade (various colors and types) the Polar sSpade is nice
Paintbrush
Red Arrow
Pennel and Peterson's Pennel
Peter Ross Spider
Kate McLaren
Grouse and Claret
Gosling (various colors)
Donegal Blue
Dean River Lantern (various colors)

Thanks, Carl, that's great. Aside from not being a great tyer, I don't have all of the materials, patience or talent to tie salmon flies. Thankfully salmon don't know the difference between a trout fly and a salmon fly :D . Thanks again, bud.

Might be aimed at Steelhead.... but should not be snubbed by Salmon?
Mm,
I sent a PM response to raven4ns linking to the Electric Soft Hackle. I think you could chime in here with some of the Kiwi lures like the Fuzzy Wuzzy...

that could be tied with a spun dubbed body instead of chenille and are proven trout flies.

Along the same lines I suggest modifying Classis Atlantic Salmon flies like the shrimp patterns capturing the dubbed spun body and hackle essence of a flymph. Here is an Un-named Shrimp variation of mine...
Image
a simple flymph type fly with 3 soft hackles (Golden Pheasant and Chicken) and dubbed Merino wool body derived from reading about Atlantic Salmon shrimps in the book Shrimp & Spey Flies for Salmon and Steelhead. http://www.amazon.com/Shrimp-Spey-Flies ... 0811714284

I have never fished for Atlantics yet but have watched some of the best tyers in the Classic Salmon Fly World. I also won't hasten to mention that the classic Salmon waters are now fished with simple hair wing variations and mobile materials like arctic fox.

ravens4ns,
Think of these flies as not far removed from the Wooly Worm you mentioned to start this discussion ;)

Thanks, RK, those are great pictures and you're right they aren't far removed from the wooly worm. The wooly worm is my goto fly, if they aren't taking the w/w they aren't taking  . I especially like that red chenille and hen hackle, that will be in my fly box come salmon season. Thank you again, RK.

Oh, I could chime in with a whole heap of Kiwi lures- not many are soft hackles though and they were all aimed at big trout in the Taupo, Rotorua and Canterbury Lake regions- not Salmon...... they might work though.... never know until you try. ;)

I do like your lean toward the Irish Shrimp patterns, they are very popular fly choices for Irish Salmon fishers and there is many a variation.

You cannot forget the colour purple, so a few Purple Peril's would have to find a place in the selection.

Thanks, everyone, I have more than enough coupled with my other trout flies for salmon season. Now it's just a matter of tying some along with some SH trout flies. The nice thing is they won't be too difficult to tie given their size.
Trout fishing will always take presidence, I just love trout fishing with light gear. An 8wgt will feel like swinging a telephone pole compared to my 3&4wgt rods.
