Barry,

I received the packet of tups dubbing blend this afternoon. You have done a great job on balancing the colors. So nice! I can’t wait to try tying with the dubbing (hopefully this coming weekend).

Thank you, once again for sharing. Very much appreciated! ;)

I received your sample.....it looks excellent! I’m bringing it to “Flyfest” this weekend, to see how nice it wraps!
Many thanks
Dana

Trying to simulate Tup's dubbing:

Shetland spindrift paprika, separated from a single strand, pulled into dubbing consistency then mixed with a bit of standard SLF #40 ginger. Mixture dubbed onto Veevus 12/0 pale yellow thread.

What do you think? (Tried but failed to rotate image)

I really like the color, it reminds me of antique carnival glass.

Mike62, now that you pointed that out, I see what you mean. You've inspired a name for this; I'll call it the Fenton's Indispensable, after the first company to produce carnival glass.

Fenton's Indispensable
Hook: Hanak H260BL or Kamasan B160 #14
Thread: pale yellow Veevus 12/0
Mini-tag: turn of bare thread
Dubbing: "Paprika" Jameson's Shetland Spindrift wool pulled out into dubbing mixed with standard SLF #40 Ginger.
Hackle: Whiting Brahma hen Mottled Grey/Pale Yellow

Perhaps I should wait to fish it. If it doesn't produce I'd be surprised; then I would have to call it Fenton's Dispensable!

Thanks for posting the recipe and thanks for the history lesson; I had no idea who first produced carnival glass. Post a pic of the finished fly, please.

I really like the look of the “carnival glass” dubbing blend. My Mom and Mother-in-Law both collected carnival glass. Mom was always drawn to the darker, richer colors and shades, very reminiscent of your dubbing blend.

I’ve added paprika yarn and ginger SLF to my shopping list. ;)
