Wonderful addition Phil. I love seeing the photos of the Proper travel kit. What a collectors item...

It is cool seeing the skater fly too. Look at that hackle. Wonderful!

Nice Gerstner chest: mine occupies a spot on the wall, since I graduated to the HAND TRUCK  At the last show, William mentioned to me that it’s easier to pack all the materials for one or two patterns in a sandwich baggie .....my response? That is not as much fun.......
A minute or so later John Shaner entered with his pull cart in tow, So I’m not the only one!

Thank you for the narrative and pictures Phil, that was really great.

DUBBN,
Datus Proper's book What the Trout Said is the best fly tying book that I know of, and it contains not a single fly pattern! The book is about fly design (what works; what doesn't; and why). Proper was a member of the Foreign Service, but he was a scientist at heart. He varied flies little by little to deduce what aspects of fly design were most successful in what situations. *Trout* taught Proper about fly design, hence the title of the book. Proper wrote with great logic and clarity, and What the Trout Said is a joy to read. Highly recommended.

I have absolutely shitloads of tying stuff collected over about 45 years.
And I don’t care.
I will continue to collect all sorts of tying material, because I like tying flies of all types, shapes and sizes..

Now that's funny, I have only been tying for 4 or 5 years and my wife and friends think I have accumulated shitloads. I would love to see some of the guys stashes on this site.
