The Black Magic is one of my favorite spidedrs to tie and fish. Many years ago, a friend in the UK sent me some info on North Country Spiders and the Black Magic was mentioned in the info. But in that info, the hackle used was from aa starling, which I have used ever since.

I often (but not always) tie in the starling hackle by the tip (on top of the hook using the tip as a small wing) and then wind the hackle until the light fuzzy part of the feather shows. A really deadly fly.

Great looking fly! 8-) A new one for me. :D

It resembles the couple dozen Starling and Herls I finished on Monday but with a long tag of the tying thread and should fish just as well! ;)
