Tonight i was just staring at a lovely dark orange Pearsall’s wooden spool of thread
that must be over 50 yrs old and I said to myself I gotta tie something with that
gorgeous thread. So here goes. Love to hear your opinion.
Hook. ...... Tiemco 2487. Sz 14
Thread. ...... Pearsall’s silk dark orange
Body. ...... Mole touch dubbed
Thorax. ..... Orange seal with a touch of orange ice dub. Pic does not show it as orange
but it is !
Hackle. ..... Red Grouse

Thanks Gentlemen. It’s untested but I sense that it will be a fish catcher.

Very nice - in particular, I really like that well marked grouse feather you used.

It's a well tied fly and I'm sure it will catch fish.
To me, your picture highlights the hackle, as mentioned by Dana.
Perhaps the orange thread will be more noticeable when it's wet.
If your goal was to highlight the wooden-spool orange Pearsall's
Gossamer, then why not tie a "Grouse & Orange" and not hide the
orange silk under the dubbing. Here is an example of what I mean,
but this one just used Rust Brown Uni 8/0.

For guys who fish the October Caddis hatch, do you think this fly would work?

There's nothing about your fly I do not like. The hackle choice is brilliant. I have never seen red grouse hackle before and it's awesome looking.
Nice choice on the hook style too. I have been thinking about using hooks like that just for a little variety.
