“Quill bloa”

Post by NightWatchman » Sat Jan 23, 2021 1:08 am

Going a little stir crazy as I broke my shoulder and my activities including tying are very limited.
Threw this fly together before my shoulder knocked me off the bench. Just made it up and have
no idea if it will fish.

Hook........ Mustad3906b Sz 12
Thread ..... vevuus 14/0. pale yellow
Body. ..... stripped peacock eye dyes yellow
Thorax ..... a little olive of this and a little olive of that
Hackle. .... Waterhen

If you don't catch a fish with that fly, it's a sign you should sell your rods and buy some golf clubs!

That pattern will definitely fish well.

* Lively hackle.
* Natural segmentation.
* Imitative color combo.
* Nice slender profile (should cut thru the water column nicely).

Checks many boxes, including something to look forward to once your shoulder heals!

Dear NW,
I can't really tell about weather this dude will catch fish.....send me a few & I will put them thru some exhaustive field trials and report back to you!
Just kidding! It is a super pattern and yes, it will be a taker as soon as we can get rid of this pesky ice!

Fish when you can, not when you should! Anything short of this is just a disaster.

What do you mean you don't know if it'll catch fish? Damn right it will! That color is an excellent color to fish with.

As soon as I saw it I said to myself that I gotta tie me some of them, in that color.

That’s a Polish quill dyed yellow on that fly.
