About the length of hen feather... Barbs are twice as long as I'd like them to be. One way or the other, I managed to tie them effectively shorter. Actually, these flies were tied in attempt to utilize these nice hen feathers, although length of barbs was too long. So, Your commendation is even more significant to me!
Regard another question (if I understood it right, due my modest knowledge of English?) - yes, I have tied them in sizes #12 to #16, some with and some without tails, and now they are occupy one row in my wet fly box. These days, there are intensive snow melt here. I'm hoping that beginning of season will come soon... so I can wet these wets, at last!
