Solar Flare
Hook: Tiemco 102Y #15
Thread: Benecchi 12/0, grey
Hackle: Whiting Coq de Leon, dark pardo
Body: Narrow yellow plastic ribbon from lemon bag and ostrich herl, dyed yellow, twisted together

While not a wingless wet, here is a variation on the theme

Loopwing Solar Flare
Hook: Ashima F-45 #14 (or equivalent scud hook)
Thread: Benecchi 12/0, grey
Hackle: Whiting Brahma hen
Abdomen: Narrow yellow plastic ribbon from lemon bag
Rib: Narrow yellow plastic ribbon from lemon bag, corded
Loopwing: Narrow yellow plastic ribbon from lemon bag and ostrich herl, dyed yellow
Thorax: Argentinean hare, medium olive

Note: For the loopwing, twist the plastic ribbon and the ostrich, then allow to furl back onto itself. Tie down. Form thorax, and then loop over the furled material, tie down.

Cheers,

The loopwing version looks great Hans! I haven't tried the veggie bag ribbons, but thought about using the very thin GSP line to strengthen the loop.

Thanks for posting,

Vlad,

GSP thread will work fine. Just allow for the fact that the loop will end up doubled, as you will need to furl and double back first, and then do the loop.

Thanks for providing the inspiration for one of the patterns I ended up doing during my on-camera sessions at the Stockholm show this past weekend.

Cheers,

Like them both. They look like flies ready for action.
