Beautiful fly, Hans. The California Quail compliments the body beautifully.

Great work, Hans. All the elements come together nicely.

I'm sure I haven't seen that hackle used quite like that, and I think I've seen some others post using a California Quail feather. Maybe its the body that makes that hackle so striking, but that is a dazzling little fly. Very interesting.

Lovely additions, Hans. I like the white and black versions the best, fwiw.

I like the black version too, Hans. It's a very striking fly and should work nicely in substituting for any black gnat pattern. The feather really does play well against the black body. It allows the dark highlights to really show up.

So do California Quails munch on California Raisins? :)

Sorry for the bad joke. Couldn't resist.

You want bad? I will give you bad...

Why do they call Californians (quails or otherwise) Granola bar people?

Well, you take away the fruits... and you take away the nuts.... and still you are left with the flakes...

Hans,

These are great. When the dust starts to settle around my place I'll be on the hunt for a CQ and a Greenfinch.
Thanks for exposing us to such variety in materials. It's been a real treat.
