Opposites Attract
Hook - Mustad Model R50-94848 (Size 12)
Thread - 14/0 Bennechi (Black)
Tail - Pearsalls Marabou Silk (Red) - full strand/cut to roughly the length of the hook gap
Rib - Single Strand of Peacock Herl (Natural) - top third broken off to get to the stronger section of the herl
Body - Hairline Rabbit Dubbing (Flourescent Blue) - pronounced taper
Hackle - Hungarian Partridge (Natural) - tyed in by the tip
Head - Tying thread (Double Whip Finish) then coated with two layers of Sally Hansen's "Dries Instantly" clear nail polish

Playing around with opposing colors (red-versus-blue).

The herl is wrapped forward under medium tension, so that it half burries itself in the dubbed body. The idea is to improve the durability of the herl rib. It may not help, but it was worth a try. Only time and testing will determine if it works.

I must be an opposite as I like that fly...a lot. Nice clean lines, well dressed. What's not to like?

Now hang on just a minute.... season opens tomorrow..... that means October 1st........ It AIN'T Christmas yet! :lol: :lol:

Nice festive looking fly Ray, well executed and well presented here. I imagine it might struggle to match a hatch, but induce strikes through aggression. Nice Rainbow or Steelhead pattern.

Ray, Howdy;

I find the rusty deck screw to be fastenating,
so, apparently does the brightly colored
object to it's left...Beautiful fly Ray, great
photo...

Ray, you're last couple flies have that wonderful vintage quality about them. Like the best of the brook trout flies. This should be a nice bite for some steelies too. Cool fly.

Thanks guys. I did not tye this pattern with steelhead in mind, but after seeing the finished fly, it had crossed my mind. I think I can scale this up a bit (say a size 8) and change the hook to a TUE type typically used on speys. Worth a try, anyways.
