Golden Coturnix Soft Hackle
Hook - Daiichi 1510
Thread - Pearsall's Gossomer Silk (Antique Gold/GT31)
Hackle - Coturnix Quail Hackle (upper back/stripped on one side)
Body - Pearsall's Gossomer Silk (Antique Gold/GT31)
Thorax - Natural Mole Dubbing
Head - Tying silk

NOTE - The fly with the golden colored body is untreated silk. The one with the darker colored body is essentially the same fly. The silk has just been rubbed with cobblers wax and a couple small mole hairs (and I really mean just a few hairs) have been pressed into the silk before it is wrapped forward. The cobblers wax darkens the silk a few shades and the mole seems to take away the shine.

Anyway, just wanted to show how easily the shade/color of a pattern can be adjusted. This may be useful when trying to match the colors of insects in your local streams.

EDIT - I added the photos back into this post. For some reason, the original photos had been lost.

i was just checking out alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll your incredable work over at FTF............sure miss seeing all your flies. i was in your neck of the woods twice this year.....in June i went to ( http://www.speyclave.com ) the spey thing up on the Salmon River, and in April we did a show in Burlington, Ontario for the Izaak Walton League up in Canada.
i just came home from a North Arkansas Fly Fishers meeting.....Misako and i are on the Sowbug committee as well.....for the last couple years now. If you ever want to come down and tye at the Bug.....just lemme know. i'll get you "IN" PRONTO! You can stay with us and save hotel. We always have a house full at that time anyway.....the more the merrier. Hope you don't mind a Photon bed on the floor. And actually you might luck up and get one in a frame.....we got bout 3 or 4 extra photons here, and the guest list evolves from year to year. Twice a year we get invaded by fly tying aliens from all over the cosmos. :D During the "Bug" (Oct.), and also when the FFF Southern Council Conclave is happening in March. Pick your poison or come down for bouff. :P Your always welcome.
i still can't hardly believe how we came down here for the first time to do the "Bug" in '04 and ended up buying a house here in '07...........go figure. But i'll tell you one thing...........i DO NOT! miss snow.
