A little Baetis soft hackle designed to float in the film. Original idea from John Juracek at Blue Ribbon Flies.

Hook: TMC 206 BL, size #18
Tail: Lemon wood duck
Body: Superfine olive-gray dubbing
Wing: Teal

That is a beautiful fly! I'd like to have a row of these in my spring creek selection. Looks like a good winter fly too (small & dark).

Question 1 - You mention a teal wing. Did you mean hackle from a teal wing?
Question 2 - What thread color and size would you recommend for this pattern?

I use little feathers from the "elbow" of a Teal wing because 1] they are small enough for #18-#22 flies and 2] I think the natural oils in the feather help keep it in the film. You can also use Mallard wing feathers if you want a lighter color.

I take the feathers from the area the pencil is pointed at.

I almost always use Flymaster 6/0 or Uni 8/0 in a color to compliment the body dubbing (olive in this case).

Yup, good fly. I've tied my fair share of these. Sometimes that Teal can be a real pain to work with.

Charlie, I had the same questions as Ray. Thanks for the extra info. Cool fly, and you're right everything about this pattern should leave it riding pretty high and a fantastic pattern. I've been fishing a very light softie similar and have done well on Spring Creek with it a few times this past season. Thanks for sharing this.
