I would not hesitate putting it on any time of the year. Tailwater, or Freestone!

I’ve often thought of herl fibers as “hackle” on small flies. But this is the first time I remember ever seeing someone else call it that. Makes sense to me. ;)

Great midge pattern. Another Roadkill pattern I will shamelessly copy. :twisted: :D

Do you apply head cement to the thread base before you palmer the marabou?
I'll sometimes spin the marabou with a thread tag to reinforce it but it then becomes more of a rope.

You guys are killing me.
I'm trying to bang out flies for salmon camp this fall and now I want to dig out midge size stuff... :roll:

No cement to glue it down. I tie the Marabou on by the smaller tips, then twist it around the tying thread not a tag, then wind forward.
