Pritts Greentail
After watching Robert Smith’s excellent video of tying T.E. Pritts Greentail I wanted to give it a go. I believe the hackle maybe a little too long. Robert in the video mentioned that the fly is hackled a little more heavily than other spiders. What do you guys think . Thanks.

Re: Pritts Greentail
You beat me to it!
I'm just finishing the last 2 of 18 to add to my fly boxes. I found it a little difficult to tie in the green and grey threads at the same time, so I started the green silk about a third way down the hook shank and then back up to where I started. Did a couple turns of a whip finish, clipped off the green silk and then tied in the grey thread at the eye and down to the green thread. Added the hare's ear thorax and then the hackle. Made the tying a lot faster for this OLD guy!

Very nice Bob. Love em ! I was thinking of tying one incorrectly with the peacock head but I felt I didn’t have enough room to keep things looking proportionate. The green silk body would have gotten shorten and not looked right at least to me . Lol

I think the fly looks fine. Maybe a touch too long on the hackle like you suggested, but all in all I like it. Is that Highlander Green silk for the body?NightWatchman wrote: ↑Fri Dec 04, 2020 8:40 pm Very nice Bob. Love em ! I need to watch all of Mr. Smith's videos. I am a subscriber to his videos but I don't get the time to watch like I want. But in time I will watch his videos on Pritt's flies and take notes.

Re: Pritts Greentail
Bob,
The thorax on your flies has a very spikey look to it. Did you use the split thread method, dubbing loop, or
simply twist it on your thread?
Thanks- Ken

I'm lazy. Just twisted it on the silk. Tightly at the begining and end of the "noodle" and looser in the middle
