Amazon parrot feather patterns

Post by ForumGhillie » Sun Dec 06, 2020 11:28 am

We have a talkative, friendly Amazon parrot that sheds feathers all the time. Some of the feathers are soft and I keep thinking about how I could use them in wingless wet fly patterns.

This pretty close to a Stenacron mayfly dun...

Any thoughts?

Like!

One of my favorite flies and hatches to fish. Also one of the most beautiful mayflies out there.

That Stenacron is a beauty... Do you entomologists out there know whether that mayfly lives out here in Oregon or Pacific NW rivers...

I have never read anywhere that Stenacron interpunctatum is out West. It is known as a East & Midwest sparse hatch.

The color of the hackle is beautiful. It looks great on all those flies and I don't know which one I like better.

I guess it's nice to have a hackle supply right at home. But I'm sure there are times you have to wait for the bird to give up its supply.
