Dyed Purple Pheasant Tails

Post by joaniebo » Fri Apr 14, 2017 8:15 am

A few weeks ago, I got a pair of dyed purple pheasant tails. Haven't yet used them but plan on tying a few with either snipe or golden plover hackles ... maybe even a few with grey partridge. Anyone else use purple PTs ? Thanks.

Never have, but that would surly give new meaning to "Snipe and Purple". Will be interested in seeing your version.

Will post pics once I get a chance to tie a few. Have several dyed pheasant tail colors and the dark red, orange and black make nice pt nymphs.

Got some purple-dyed pheasant tail a while back; unfortunately the dye process left the feather fibers brittle. I've tyed some PTs, purple Lightning Bugs and purple LGMs (Little Green Machines); all worked well but durability has been an issue. I think I'm going to dye some up myself and see if that solves the problem.

Regards,
Scott
