Some here have seen this before, but it fits nicely into this thread. The stream was Spring Creek in central PA and the cane was gifted by the late Mark Romero ...

Re: Upstream Wet Fly

John, I have an old VHS - that dates me - of Earnie and Geoff Thomas of NZ, fishing the Rangitikei River on the North Island. Its an interesting episode for many reasons but not least of all for the fly tying by the stream without a vice. I've always liked that episode for its varied and interesting...

Re: Upstream Wet Fly

Wasn't Earnie known for his Bavarian hat also!

I've seen very few photos of him hatless over the years.

Someone's got to say it, Ray, in case there are any illusions.

Here's one of me casting in 1986 on De Puy's Spring Creek, fishing a PT nymph upstream. Whatever happened to that handsome young guy?
John, we were all young and hansome once, now we are only handsome!

Re: To Cane A Trout

I've caned quite a few trout over the years, and a great taper is a thing of beauty. For me, it's difficult to decide which is more beautiful ... the trout, the rod, or the setting https://i.imgur.com/QHscPuQ.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Pf4SMKW.jpg Fortunately, it's not a competition. Nicely put, Phil!

This includes planing, straightening, etc. But one thing I don't do is produce strips by saw circular or band...

Re: Just old silk

Yes, they are nice for wrapping rods too.

I like some of the Pearsall colours and use some of them but I most often use YLI 100wt.
