Excellent tie. Looks like you've been cruising Bergman's book Trout.

Re: Yellow Jacket Bucktail/Hairwing

I believe the book is one Roy Patrick put out in the 60's??. I bought a copy when I moved to WA in 74. If I got the book wrong it's one put out by the Inland Empire fly fishing club out of Spokane.

Re: re: tying Stewart's black spider

another way is to spin the hackle and the tying thread. Doesn't look as pretty but the thread reinforces the stem.

Re: re: tying Stewart's black spider

Lol...what larger feathers, Bill, they are all really small. Mind you my vision isn't that great since my stroke which makes tying problematic at best. As it was I was trying to tie a #14 not a #20. What is the largest Stewart's black spider that is typically tied? Thank you for the suggestion, Bil...

Re: re: tying Stewart's black spider

try larger sized ones first and then switch to the smaller hackle. I tried some #20's and the starling stems kept breaking on me. I used black hen hackle for those.

Re: up eye wet fly hooks source

I believe the 98482 hooks have been discontinued and the pipeline has dried up. I was after some 6 months ago and all I could find were in private hands. Some on this board suggested good substitutes of current manufacture.

Re: emergers

I'm surprised that no body mentioned the possibility of terrestrials. At this time of year, a wet ant is always something to consider. (Or a dry ant for that matter.) And I daresay, almost all other wet flies represent emergers. Just don't fish them too deep. good idea about the ants. I've seen tha...

Re: emergers

I'd tote along an aquarium net for the next time this happens. See what gets netted.
