Buy a smoker and smoke a bunch of whitefish. I used to fish for them every winter until a storm rerouted the channel I fished.

Back when I was in the Navy stationed at the head of the Chesapeake bay we hit a stream/river/creek that was loaded with river herring. I wish I had known how to can or smoke fish back then. They were the size of the hickory shad I caught in other nearby waters. Also back there I did catch a couple ...

I'm sure Robert can tell you why. Out here when we weight the front of a leech imitation it's because we want to front of the fly to undulate in the water. The red wire might have been used because it forms bulk faster than tying thread. It also adds a slight amount of weight.

I think I'll order one of these when they are back in stock. Looks like it could be a good wet fly rod.

They look simple... but effective. It's amazing what can be done with three materials. Excellent job and I wish I was trout fishing with those.
